What does your options broker really cost you?
Tell us how you trade. We add up commissions, ticket minimums and caps, index option fees, assignment fees and margin interest at 11 brokers. Fees last checked 2026-10-30.
Ranked by cost, not by payout. Some links may earn us a referral fee. That never changes the order. Disclosures
Estimated annual cost
! = a value we could not confirm on the broker's own page. Tap a row for the breakdown.
How we calculate
- Your contracts are split by strategy (1 leg for single-leg and the wheel, 2 for verticals, 4 for iron condors). Order count = contracts ÷ (legs × contracts per leg).
- Per-order minimums (IBKR $1) and per-leg caps (tastytrade $10 to open) apply to each leg of each order. tastytrade charges $0 to close.
- Volume pricing: TradeStation tiers use your monthly contracts. E*TRADE's $0.50 rate applies at 30+ trades a quarter.
- Margin interest = your balance × that broker's rate for the balance tier. IBKR blends its tiers. Others charge one rate on the whole balance.
- Public's options rebate is counted at its lowest tier ($0.06 per stock/ETF contract) and requires enrolling.
